News from DailyMobile.se:

The HTC One X is being hailed as the number one phone of 2012, offering outstanding design, hardware and features. However, 2012 is a year full of great smartphones, with the impending release of the Samsung Galaxy S3, the recently released Nokia Lumia 900 and the rumoured October unveiling of the iPhone 5. So is the HTC One X good enough to stand up the competition, and more importantly – is it worth buying?
Design
If there is one thing that HTC are not renowned for, it is design innovation. In the past, the Taiwanese company was often criticized for mediocre looks with every release looking exactly the same as the one before. This is not the case with the One X. The body is a single block of polycarbonate with no visible seems (apart from the obvious power and volume buttons), and at just 9mm thick and 130g it feels great in the hand. The usual virtual buttons are where you would expect them to be.
Screen
One thing I probably should have mentioned when talking about the design is that the HTC One X is huge! At 4.7 inches, the screen is enormous, which I suppose should not be surprising given the current trend in smartphones. What’s good though, is the fact that it is the resolution that captures the attention and not the enormity of the screen. With a 1280×720 resolution offering 312 pixel per inch, the One X is able to match the iPhone 4S. Colors are vibrant, sharp, detailed and just down right impressive.
Camera
Such a good screen demands a good camera. Fortunately, HTC have been able to oblige with an 8MP rear-facing camera with 1080p video shooting and a 1.3 MP front-facing camera with 720p. The 8MP camera is extremely good and includes auto-focus, smart LED flash and BSI sensor, meaning pictures and videos are of incredible quality. Shutter lag is virtually non-existent. However, as good as the camera is, there is one feature that really set the One X apart.
When recording video, you will have the ability to shoot stills at the same time or extract the stills you want during video playback. There is also an ‘Instagram style’ lens that allows you to various effects which can be used as you snap happily away.
Performance
The global version of the One X includes a quad-core Tegra 3 1.5 GHz processor, whereas the US LTE version uses a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor. There is 1GB RAM and 16/32GB of internal storage. Those specs should tell you everything you need to know about the performance capabilities – this machine is a beast! Gaming, video playback and web-surfing are all completely seamless and lag-free and the touch-screen responses are flawless.
The HTC One X also runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich combined with HTC Sense 4.0 which only serves to better the device.
Audio
The Audio (software and hardware) is provided by Beats by Dr. Dre, giving the One X incredible sound quality in every area, from gaming to music.
Battery
Quality of battery life has always been a drawback with HTC devices, thankfully this has been addressed. The 1800mAh battery gives around 12 hours of power usage – more than enough to do your share of video watching, game playing and web surfing.
Price
The price of the HTC One X is almost the same as that of many other similar phones, and this is what makes it less competitive. Amazon offers the SIM-free version for about $600 (£377, 470 euros), and even the locked versions come with rather high monthly fees. The Samsung Galaxy S3 is coming soon, and it’s expected to be sold for almost the same price, so many people will prefer Samsung’s famous flagship to just another HTC phone…
Verdict
So, is the HTC One X worth buying? Well, if you like big phones, the answer is a definite yes. It looks good, performs excellently, is full of great features and has a slick operating system. The One X is one of the best phones in its kind, but will it be able to stand the competition against Samsung’s Galaxy S3? This remains to be seen…
